The Inspiration Behind My Book

The inspiration for my book, The Little Black Dress all began because of a beautiful velvet black dress I received when I was 4-years old.  It became so special to me that every year that I could fit into it my mother would let the hem out and add bias tape just to give me another year to wear it.  Then the inevitable happened…one day I realized it would no longer fit and my mother put it away for safekeeping.

For 48 years I carried that little black dress with me through every move and hung it in my closet.  Little did I know how much that dress would mean to me until one day while having my quiet time God brought to mind the gift of the little black dress.

Grabbing my Bible, my journal and my pen I began to write the story, my story intertwined with fiction.  Flowing out of my heart through the pen in my hand were the feelings of unworthiness, abandonment and brokenness that had built up over the years.  In the months it took to complete this book I knew God was doing a work in me.  And often, as the words poured out over the pages in my journal, tears mixed with ink leaving an imprint of redemption in my heart.

It is my hope as you read the story of this young woman’s journey that you will find a loving God…a God who cares intimately about you.
